Our Beliefs

We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.

  • God

We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and each possesses all the attributes of God. (Matthew 5:16, 45; 6:1, 4, 8, 9; James 1:17; John 1:1; 4:24; 14:9, 16-20; Genesis 1:2; 2 Peter 1:21)

We believe in God the Father, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it. (Gen. 1:1, 26-27; Ps. 90:2; Matt. 28:19; Acts 17:24-28; 2 Cor. 13:14; Hebrews 11:3)

  • Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is our Savior, who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a cross for all sin, and was raised from the grave after three days to demonstrate His defeat of sin and death. He ascended into heaven and will return to earth to reign as our powerful King. (Matt. 1:22-23; John 1:1-5, 14, 3:16; Heb. 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Col. 2:9-10; 1 Tim. 6:14-15; 1 John 4:9; 2 Peter 3:18)

  • Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is one with God the Father and Jesus Christ. Those who accept Christ as their Savior will receive the Holy Spirit to live inside them. The Holy Spirit serves as our comforter, guide and advocate. The Holy Spirit is given to Christians and provides guidance in living, an understanding of the Bible, and prayerful intercession. (Acts 1:7-8; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Romans 8:26-27; Gal. 5:25; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16, 6:19; Eph. 1:13; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Tim. 1:14)

  • The Bible

We believe the Bible is the holy and inspired Word of God. It is the foundation of our faith, our ultimate authority on Christian beliefs, and a guide to living. The Bible is divinely inspired by God, without error, given to man so that we may know and understand the truth of God and his love. We accept the Word of God is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice. (Matt. 5:18, 24:35; Mark 12:36; John 14:26, 16:12-15; Romans 15:4; Acts 1:16; 1 Cor. 2:12-13; 2 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Ps. 12:6, 119:105;)

  • People

We believe all people are made in the image of God and were created to live the adventure of following Jesus Christ. Although we, as people, have tremendous potential for good, we also have the freedom to do evil. Our disobedience toward God is called “sin” and that separates all humanity from God. All mankind is lost and without hope apart from Jesus. (Gen. 1:27; Isa. 53:6, 59:1-2; Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:23; Ps. 139:13-16; Col. 2:13-15)

  • Salvation

We believe that salvation is a free gift of God and cannot be earned through any of our acts or works. We receive God’s free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus alone and the sacrifice He made for all people on the cross for our sins. This requires placing our trust in the atoning work of Jesus, repenting of our sin, and confessing Jesus as our Lord. In the New Testament church, every believer was commanded to be baptized.

    Acts 2:38

We believe that the Bible teaches that baptism is the immersion in water of a repentant believer and is the first step of active obedience after making a commitment to Christ. Baptism allows a Christ-follower to communicate to the world their surrendered commitment to Jesus Christ.

    Romans 8:37-39, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 12:13

  • Eternity

We believe people were created to exist forever. Every person will either exist eternally in union with God in heaven through following Jesus Christ or be eternally separated from God in hell due to refusing to follow Him. (John 14:2-3; John 14:6; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 2 Thess. 1:6-10; Rev. 20:11-15)

  • Marriage

We believe that the Biblical definition of marriage is between one man and one woman. Jesus himself recognized this definition.

    Matthew 19:4-6

  • Church Membership

We believe in the importance of serving the body of Christ by offering clear paths for people to start and develop healthy and growing relationships with others in the church body. Church membership is a byproduct of people who are growing in Christ and who grasp the importance of serving the Lord by using their gifts to serve others in the local church. Church membership implies service for the growth and effectiveness of the church mission.

First Christian defines membership as one who has publicly confessed that they ‘believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God’ and has been baptized by immersion for the forgiveness of their sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

    Matthew 16:16, Romans 6:4, Acts 2:38
